Neutralization of Locks and Locking Devices

This course is specifically designed for individuals performing surreptitious entries for the purpose of executing the provisions of a court order; seizing evidence; providing silent entry support for tactical operations; and performing other activities that may be under the aegis of their department or agency.

The basic neutralization course consists of an intensive one-week program based on formal classroom instruction and rigorous practical exercises. The techniques taught are effective in neutralizing approximately 85% of the key operated locks in use today throughout the United States—locks most likely to be encountered by an officer conducting a surreptitious entry. The course will cover specific types of locks, such as wafer, pin tumbler, disk, lever, and simple combination locks.

The course will provide instruction covering lock picking, lock by-pass techniques, and other acceptable surreptitious entry neutralization measures. The course will also cover key identification and impressioning.

Students will gain basic knowledge of various locksmith disciplines such as key codes, master keying, lock substitutions, tool making, key impressioning, and other opening techniques.

In addition, the course will instruct students in the preparation of covert entry operation plans.

Tuition costs include both course instruction and a basic lock picking and entry kit for each student.
